Welding Coordinator – Defence Engineering

Location: North West – Engineering Centre of Excellence

Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + Benefits

We’re representing a leading UK defence engineering business with over a century of heritage in delivering high-integrity, military-grade engineering solutions. Recognised globally for innovation and precision, this organisation designs and manufactures advanced mechanical systems used in critical defence applications.

As part of ongoing growth within their Engineering Centre of Excellence, they are seeking a Welding Coordinator to join the business and play a key role in maintaining and developing welding standards, procedures, and quality systems across complex fabrication projects.

About the Role

The successful candidate will form part of the Welding Coordination Team, ensuring compliance within the Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) while driving continuous improvement in welding processes, documentation, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) ensuring compliance with industry standards and procedures.

Provide day-to-day technical support across welding and fabrication activities.

Lead the planning and coordination of welding works orders within SAP.

Plan and conduct internal welder audits, ensuring accreditation and certification compliance.

Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions (RCCA) to enhance quality and productivity.

Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for both new and legacy programmes.

Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions related to welding operations.

Support EN 1090, ISO 3834, and DIN 2303 audit preparation and compliance activities.

Manage welder qualification testing in accordance with BS EN ISO 9606 / 14732.

Advise engineering and production teams on welding methods, plant selection, and emerging technologies.

What We’re Looking For

IWT / EWT qualified, ideally registered with The Welding Institute (TWI).

CSWIP 3.1 qualified.

Proven experience in welding coordination within a manufacturing or defence engineering environment.

Strong understanding of MIG/MAG (SMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes.

Working knowledge of ISO 3834 and exposure to external audits.

Confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (e.g. SAP).
