Mechanical Supervisor

Overview
We are working with a leading international engineering and construction contractor turning over £500 million per annum, delivering complex mechanical and piping installations across major projects.
Due to continued project growth in Cardiff, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to lead piping installation works on site, ensuring delivery meets programme, quality and safety expectations.
This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong technical knowledge and the ability to manage site teams effectively within a structured project environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee piping installation crews including pipe fitters, welders and specialist subcontractors
Ensure all works are installed in accordance with approved drawings, isometrics and technical specifications
Plan and allocate labour, plant and materials to maintain programme targets
Monitor welding activities and ensure compliance with quality control procedures
Inspect pipework routing, alignment, supports and installation tolerances
Coordinate pressure testing, flushing and commissioning preparation activities
Track daily productivity and adjust manpower allocation as required
Enforce permit-to-work systems and site safety standards
Deliver daily briefings and liaise closely with QA/QC and project teams
Attend coordination meetings with the main contractor and internal management
Identify delays, variations and potential risks, escalating to senior management where necessary
Ensure high standards of housekeeping and safe material storage
Confirm plant, lifting equipment and access systems are certified and compliant
Maintain strong site discipline, timekeeping and productivity standards
Skills & Experience
Mechanical Engineering qualification or recognised trade background
Minimum 5 years' experience supervising piping installations on construction projects
Strong knowledge of pipe fabrication, welding processes and erection methods
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and isometric layouts
Experience working within structured permit-to-work and safety systems
Proven ability to manage site teams and coordinate multiple work fronts
Solid understanding of quality assurance and testing procedures
Strong communication and organisational skills
