My automotive client are looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller to help lead and inspire their commercial vehicle workshop team at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU)

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the flow of work through the workshop, ensuring quality and compliance of all tasks carried out. With a focus on maximising utilisation, efficiency, and profitability, the Workshop Controller will guide and support the team to deliver exceptional service to our customers, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

What you'll be doing

Ensure all workshop processes are followed for every job.

Create job cards, pre-time jobs, and allocate work to technicians to maximise sold hours and efficiency.
Monitor job progress and obtain authorisation for any additional work when required.
Ensure 100% sign-off on completed inspections to guarantee our customers' Operator's Licenses remain safe and legal.
Issue VOR reports accurately and within agreed time frames.
Identify and record all warranty items; ensure replaced parts are labelled, documented, and processed correctly.
Audit job packs to ensure accuracy before passing to administration/invoicing.
Monitor and manage workshop loading to maintain smooth workflow.
Measure technician performance and activity, ensuring a first-time fix culture with quality and compliance.
Ensure all service processes (including quality checks and MOT preparation) and company policies are adhered to.
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including health & safety, vehicle legislation, trading standards, and fire regulations.
Manage scheduling and deadlines effectively to support customer requirements.
Skills & Behaviours

Leadership: Proven experience in a workshop controller or supervisory role within a commercial vehicle environment.
Process-driven: Strong understanding of workshop processes, compliance, and Operator's License responsibilities.
Inspire & Lead: Ability to lead, inspire, motivate, and manage a team of technicians.
Organisation: Excellent organisational and scheduling skills.
Communication: Strong communication and customer service abilities.
Professional skills: Focused on delivering efficiency, profitability, and compliance.
IT: Good IT skills with experience in workshop/maintenance management systems (R2C, Truckfile, Kerridge, etc. advantageous)
