Purpose of The Role

The role of the Body Assembly Reworker (BIW) is to work as part of a multi-functional team, reporting to the Production Team Leader. The role encourages involvement in improving performance for the team, in quality and cost control, productivity and areas of safety.

You would be expected to lead by example and build upon McLaren’s team based working approach and embed a no faults forward approach whilst ensuring moral, behaviours and environment is maintained inline to McLaren standards. Ensuring that the Body Assembly of the vehicle meets the highest quality standards and specifications.

The role requires a flexible approach to working hours, including shifts. Weekend work and overtime when required.

Principle Accountabilities

Inspection and Assessment:

* Conduct thorough visual inspections of BIW components to identify defects, imperfections, or deviations from specifications.

* Utilize precision measuring tools and equipment to assess alignment, tolerances, and fitment.

Repair and Rework:

* Perform precision grinding, cutting, and other rework techniques to repair or modify BIW components as needed.

* Ensure that repaired components meet the original design and engineering specifications.

Alignment and Precision Work:

* Align and fit body panels, substructures, and chassis components to ensure proper assembly.

* Use specialized tools and equipment to achieve precise alignment and tolerances.

Quality Control:

* Monitor and maintain high-quality standards throughout the BIW assembly process.

* Conduct continuous inspections and checks to identify and rectify any discrepancies promptly.

Documentation and Reporting:

* Maintain detailed records of all rework activities, including repairs, modifications, and adjustments made to BIW components.

* Report any recurring issues or trends to the relevant engineering or quality control teams.

Collaboration:

* Collaborate with other production and quality control team members to resolve complex issues and ensure smooth production flow.

Safety and Compliance:

* Adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

* Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and safety standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Previous experience in automotive manufacturing or assembly operations is preferred, but not essential. Relevant experience in a similar production environment will be considered.

* Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive systems and components

* Proven experience in body assembly, BIW rework, or similar roles within the automotive industry.

* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD, and specifications would be advantageous but training will be provided.

* Familiarity with automotive manufacturing processes and quality control standards.

* Power Inspect Software

* FARO arm knowledge would be advantageous, but training will be provided

* Various repairs Helicoil, Rivnut, Rivstud

* Composites manufacturing process understanding.

* Composite repair experience would be advantageous, but training will be provided

* Comprehensive hand tool experience

* Structural adhesive knowledge and experience would be advantageous, but training will be provided

* CDB input

* PPS - Practical problem solving techniques. 4M, PDCA
