SENCO (2 Days per Week) – Part-Time (Temporary)
Teach Now is seeking an experienced and values-driven SENCO to join an inclusive Church of England primary school in Islington. This is a two-day-a-week, out-of-class leadership role beginning in January, offering a rewarding opportunity to shape and strengthen SEND provision across the school.
About the Role
You will take the lead in establishing, coordinating and quality-assuring the school’s SEND systems, ensuring pupils with additional needs access a rich, ambitious curriculum and thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Working closely with the Headteacher and SLT, you will play a central role in embedding the school’s ethos of inclusion, equality and “Learning for Life.”
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the development and implementation of SEND processes in line with statutory guidance, the school’s SEND policy and the SEN Code of Practice
• Oversee provision for pupils with EHCPs and those at SEN Support, ensuring early identification, a graduated response and clear progress outcomes
• Coordinate, write, review and monitor personalised plans and provision maps, ensuring high-quality, consistent support
• Manage and develop the SEND team, modelling best practice and supporting class teachers and support staff to deliver effective interventions
• Lead and coordinate annual EHCP reviews, liaising with parents, external agencies and the local authority
• Use assessment data to evaluate intervention impact, contributing to school self-evaluation and improvement planning for SEND
• Promote inclusive practice across the curriculum, upholding the school’s Christian values of respect, care and high expectations
Person Specification
• A qualified SENCO or experienced SEN practitioner with substantial recent primary experience
• Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and multi-agency collaboration
• Proven success in raising outcomes for pupils with SEND through evidence-based strategies
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, families and professionals
• A commitment to the ethos of a Church of England school and the holistic development of all learners
• Highly organised, reflective and able to maximise impact within a focused two-day-a-week schedule
If you are a committed SEN leader ready to make a meaningful contribution to a values-driven, inclusive school community, we would love to hear from you.
