Job Title: Planning and Building Control Administration Officer
Location: SM4 5DX
Contract: 6 Month Contract, with the possibility of an extension
Pay Rate: £17.27
Working Hours: 35 Working Hours Per Week

Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality, customer-focused administrative support to the Planning and Building Control services. The role will involve accurate processing of applications and correspondence, supporting planning officers and building control surveyors, and ensuring effective communication with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Register and validate planning and building control applications in accordance with statutory and local requirements.
Provide administrative support to professional officers within Planning and Building Control.
Handle incoming telephone and email enquiries, providing information or referring queries appropriately.
Assist in the preparation and distribution of reports, decision notices, agendas, and correspondence.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records using the council’s digital systems (e.g., Uniform, IDOX).
Liaise with members of the public, applicants, agents, and other council departments to ensure timely responses and effective communication.
Ensure data is handled in accordance with GDPR and other information management policies.
Support with the processing of planning appeals, enforcement actions, and notices when required.
Handle customer complaints and service requests with professionalism, escalating complex issues when appropriate.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Experience of working in an administrative or customer service environment.
Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience working with databases.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritise workloads.
A flexible, proactive, and team-oriented approach.
Desirable:
Experience working within a local authority or similar regulatory environment.
Familiarity with planning and building control processes and legislation.
Knowledge of the Uniform (IDOX) system or equivalent planning/building control software
