Cover Supervisor (Secondary Schools)
Location: Blackpool & Fylde Coast
Start Date: ASAP (February 2026)
Contract: Full-time / Flexible Long-term
Are you a natural leader who can command a room with confidence and empathy? We are looking for resilient, adaptable, and proactive individuals to support mainstream secondary schools across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.
In this role, you are the glue that holds the classroom together when the regular teacher is away. While some students may display challenging behaviour or have underlying SEND needs, your presence ensures that their learning journey continues without disruption. This is more than just "supervising"; it is about being a positive role model and ensuring every student has a productive day.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
08:30 - School Arrival: Reporting to the Cover Manager to receive your timetable for the day and any specific briefing notes on student needs.
08:45 - Morning Prep: Familiarising yourself with the provided lesson plans and worksheets for your first few periods.
09:00 - Classroom Leadership: You are at the door, greeting students and establishing clear expectations from the second they enter the room.
10:00 - Facilitating Learning: Delivering the pre-set work, answering questions where possible, and keeping students on task to prevent a "lost" lesson.
12:30 - Adaptable Support: Moving between different subject areas-one hour you might be in PE, the next in English-bringing your unique energy to every department.
14:00 - Behaviour Management: Using your "unflappable" mindset to de-escalate any friction and ensuring the school's behaviour policy is followed.
15:15 - Handover & Debrief: Ensuring the classroom is tidy and providing brief feedback for the returning teacher so they know exactly what was achieved.Who We Are Looking For
You do not need a teaching qualification for this role. We find that individuals with backgrounds in Sports Coaching, Outdoor Instructing, or Group Leadership (e.g., Scout Leaders) transition exceptionally well into this environment.
The Command Presence: You have the confidence to lead a group of 30 teenagers and maintain a calm, focused atmosphere.
Relationship Focused: You can build quick rapport with students, helping them feel supported even in their teacher's absence.
Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults in a coaching, instructing, or supervisory capacity is highly sought after.
Resilience: You can handle "difficult" behaviour with a level head and a sense of humour. Why Join Us?
Variety: No two days are the same; you will gain experience across various subjects and school settings.
Career Progression: An ideal stepping stone for those considering a future career in teaching or educational psychology.
Flexibility: Opportunities for both consistent long-term placements and flexible daily cover.
Local Impact: Support the local Blackpool and Fylde community by ensuring education remains consistent for all students. How to Apply
If you are ready to lead from the front and support the next generation as a cover supervisor, we want to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter highlighting your coaching or leadership experience.
