Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading facilities management company to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in their decarbonisation team at either their London, Newcastle or Manchester office.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to £60,000 + benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role

Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer you will:

Lead mechanical design development from RIBA Stages 2 to 4 and provide technical support through Stages 5 and 6.
Design and integrate sustainable technologies such as heat pumps, HVAC, BMS, and district heating systems into retrofit and new build projects.
Conduct energy modelling and performance simulations using tools such as IES and Energy Pro.
Ensure all designs comply with industry standards (CIBSE, PAS 2035, UK Building Regs, etc.).
Manage and coordinate BIM and CAD-based mechanical design processes.
Oversee integration of mechanical, electrical, and energy systems to ensure seamless delivery.
Participate in technical reviews for tenders, commercial input, and project execution.
Identify and mitigate design risks; maintain and manage design risk registers.
Provide leadership in developing decarbonisation strategies for public and private sector clients.
Produce clear technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng or equivalent).
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with CIBSE or IMechE preferred.
6-10 years' experience in mechanical building services design and project delivery.
Proficiency in simulation/design software such as IES, Energy Pro, and PVsol.
Prior involvement in funding-driven public sector decarbonisation projects (e.g. PSDS, SHDF).

Personal skills

Strong communicator with the ability to explain complex technical ideas to stakeholders.
Collaborative mindset with experience leading and mentoring within multidisciplinary teams.
Innovation-driven, with a passion for sustainability and continuous improvement.

Salary and benefits of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role

Salary between £40,000 - £60,000 (dependant on experience)
