SEND Learning Support Assistant – ARP (ASAP Start)

Some children communicate through movement, routine, and trusted relationships rather than spoken language. This permanent role exists to give them the consistency and calm adult presence they rely on every day.

We are working on behalf of a mainstream primary school in Coventry with an Alternative Resource Provision supporting pupils with communication and language needs. The ARP sits within an inclusive school community and offers a learning environment shaped around routine, sensory regulation, and child-led experiences rather than traditional classroom structures.

This is a permanent role with an ASAP start, suited to someone who wants to work closely with pupils every day, build trust over time, and be part of a stable SEND team.

Responsibilities

*

Support pupils within the ARP throughout the school day

*

Provide consistent routines that support emotional regulation

*

Work alongside teachers and SEND staff to follow Personal Learning Plans

*

Support pupils with communication and language needs, including pre-verbal pupils

*

Use consistent communication approaches agreed by the school

*

Support with personal care where required

*

Help create a calm, predictable, and safe learning environment

Requirements

*

Recent experience supporting children or young people with SEND

*

Confidence working with communication and language needs

*

A calm, patient, and emotionally aware approach

*

Willingness to support personal care needs

*

Adaptable and reliable attitude

*

Interest in developing SEND communication strategies such as Makaton

Formal qualifications are helpful but not essential. Commitment, empathy, and consistency are what matter most.

What’s on Offer

*

Permanent role from the outset with an ASAP start

*

A small, consistent ARP team

*

Ongoing support from SEND leadership and school staff

*

A setting where daily consistency makes a real difference
