Post-16 Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs School)
Location: Bournemouth/Christchurch
Contract: Full-Time Term-Time Only / Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Salary: depending on experience and qualifications
We are seeking a Post-16 Teaching Assistant to join our fantastic SEN school in September 2025. If you have a commitment to inclusive education and want to help empower young adults with diverse needs, we would love to hear from you!
This vibrant SEN school is committed to providing tailored educational experiences for students with a range of needs. The school's Post-16 provision is designed for students aged 16-19 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and access to specialist support. Currently, our students are supported across three sites, each offering distinct curriculum pathways tailored to individual needs.
Our Post-16 curriculum focuses on personalised learning, with students actively involved in shaping their education and setting their own targets. The school places a strong emphasis on preparing students for adulthood and future outcomes, including independence and employment skills. As part of the school's holistic approach, all Post-16 students participate in a wellbeing programme covering health and wellbeing, British Values, e-safety, and relationships and sex education.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the delivery of tailored learning programs for Post-16 students with SEN.
Assist in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs).
Support students’ personal development, independence, and life skills.
Encourage active participation in wellbeing activities and personal targets.
Support students on work placements, adhering to placement dress codes.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to support student progress.
Promote student involvement in shaping their learning and aspirations.
Person Specification:
Previous experience working with young adults with SEN is desirable.
Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Resilience and a positive attitude.
An understanding of preparing students for adulthood and the importance of wellbeing and personal development.
Enthusiasm for supporting young people to succeed and achieve their goals.
