SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Pilning, South Gloucestershire
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term time only
Hourly rate: £13.50 to £14.50 per hour (including holiday pay)
This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist provision supporting children and young people aged 7–19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and associated social and communication needs.
The setting provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment, offering education from Key Stage 2 through to post-16. The focus is on helping every student explore and achieve their individual potential at each stage of their educational journey.
Key responsibilities
Build warm, caring and supportive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, confident and ready to learn
Promote independence and personal development while maintaining high expectations of behaviour
Support the delivery of high-quality, engaging and differentiated learning activities across a broad and balanced curriculum
Work closely with the Class Teacher to support the day-to-day running of the classroom
Adapt flexibly to the changing needs of the setting to ensure smooth daily operations
Support pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical and spiritual development
Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Complete required documentation accurately, including records relating to incidents, health and behaviour, under the guidance of senior staff
Skills and qualifications
GCSE Maths and English at Level 2 / Grade C or above (essential)
Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
Knowledge of, or experience working with, pupils with special educational needs
A strong commitment to putting the child first and treating every pupil as an individual
A positive, creative approach to meeting pupils’ needs
Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent (desirable)
At least one year’s experience working as a Level 2 qualified Teaching Assistant or equivalent (desirable)
