We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior SEN Officer to join our client’s dedicated SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) team. This is a vital role, working to ensure children and young people with SEN receive the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.
As a Senior SEN Officer, you will play a key part in overseeing the assessment and review of Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, ensuring legal compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014, and driving person-centred planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and coordinate complex casework relating to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs) and plans.
* Line-manage and support a small team of SEN Officers, providing professional supervision, guidance, and quality assurance.
* Represent the local authority at multi-agency meetings, mediation, and tribunal hearings.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with families, schools, professionals, and partner agencies.
* Ensure statutory deadlines and processes are met in line with SEND Code of Practice.
* Contribute to the development of service policies and procedures for continuous improvement.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
* In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory processes.
* Experience managing complex SEN casework and supporting EHC plan processes.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with families and professionals.
* Proven ability to manage and motivate staff and drive quality service delivery.
* Ability to make sound decisions and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Requirements
* Experience working in a local authority SEN or education setting.
* Sound understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organisational and ICT skills.
