We're looking for a patient, creative, and supportive tutor to work with a Year 8 student who needs help re‑engaging with education, particularly in Maths and English. They have SEN needs (ADHD and possible ASD, not formally diagnosed) and have struggled to stay focused in lessons, leading to a loss of interest in these subjects.
This role relies heavily on a mentoring‑based approach. The priority is relationship‑building, emotional safety, and helping the student feel supported and understood. Academic learning will be introduced slowly and only at the student's pace, once trust and confidence have been established.
Your role will be to:
Provide calm, nurturing, mentoring‑focused sessions
Build trust before introducing academic content
Make learning fun and accessible through creative, tailored activities
Boost confidence and motivation in core subjects
Adapt lessons to the student's mood, interests, and emotional readiness
We'd love to hear from you if you:
Have experience supporting students with SEN
Can confidently combine mentoring with flexible learning
Are patient, empathetic, and skilled at making sessions engaging
Understand the value of slow, relationship‑led academic re‑engagement
Have 6 months experience within a UK education setting
Role Details:
Subjects: Maths & English (Year 8 level, introduced gradually)
Location: DT11
Hours: 8 hours per week (flexible)
Pay: £25-£30 per hour depending on experience
